CaRs

T.J. has an obsession: CARS. At first we thought it was cute, but it has become quite dangerous. Part of his obsession is figuring out everything he can about cars. He knows that keys unlock the doors, and that you need the keys to start the car and drive it. He knows how to turn on and off the lights and make the high beams go on and off. He knows that the knobs turn on and off the air, 4-wheel drive, radio, and even the wipers. He knows all this because he has tried it all! Yes he has even started the car on his own!!!!! To keep him safe we have asked overyone to please keep their cars locked so he can not get inside. Several times we have found him inside the cars.

Yesterday we were all outside in the yard planting trees. We had all moved into the back yard to plant the last one. After it was all done we looked around and couldn't find T.J. anywhere. We proceeded to clean up and were on our way back into the front yard when a man we did not know came through the gate to tell us our son was in a car in the street!

We thought nothing of it because we do own little battery powered ride on cars for the kids and our kids do cross the street to ride them in the circle. As we came into the front yard we could see this man's concern. T.J. had somehow gotten a hold of the spare set of keys (the one we use regularly was in my pocket) and opened Jared's LOCKED car in our drive way. Put the key in the ignition and turned it to turn on the battery. Took the car out of gear and released the break. Causing the car to roll down the slight incline of our drive way and into the street!!!

Can you say answered prayers of safety that day. I could only imagine if he had rolled when there was a person or other car or hitting the brick mail box or the list goes on and on and on. If you thought you have problems with your kids we can trade for the day! So we can now add that he knows a bit more about the car. He now know that the gear shifter in Jared's car causes the car to roll when you move it around, and that the button on the break releases it. This kid is going to cause my heart attack one day.
